That koala picture is kick ass! The others are just sad. We had a big fire here this summer, but nothing near as bad as that. Our community lost a few houses
and structures; no one died though.

Yes its sad for the Koala but I take it that man in the burned out woods/truck photo did not make it and got burned alive, which is really really sad.

We have so far 181 dead and they're expecting it to rise to 300..
Over a million animals and wildlife have been destroyed.. But the best news is..The Authorities have caught 2 arsonists and they're up to their necks in shit.. Someone saw them starting fires and reported them apparently they had started 7 fires in the area..The rotten bastards

Do you know of an explanation for the number of deaths? I am trying to relate this to the wild fires in the western US over the years. My impression is that we
have fewer deaths per incident. Is there a problem with your fire warning system? Is your population and population density too low to effectively warn and
rescue everyone?

From what I read it sounds like the loss of life was so high because there were really high winds, that plus the fire resulted in a wall of flame moving at 60
miles per hour that just swept through towns before people could flee.

The weather has cool and the fires are now all controlled..
Our gum trees etc contained high amounts of flammable oils, when the leaves drop it becomes very volitile ground fuel ..the fires move very fast .. add 95km winds it all just goes up in seconds.. Also the greenies had a stop put on controlled burning by the Country Fire Authority and the govt had banned people clearing trees etc around their properties. One man went against council and was fined $50,000 for clearing around his house..his house was one of the few survivng and now he is counter suing the council ..a lot of people are talking of suing the govt in a class action. We've raised about 100 million so far, it's still coming in .. The two suspect arsons were released coz they didn't do anything ..but they got one and had him charged with arson contributing to death (21 so far)..The arsonists lawyer in defence said that his client is mentally delicate..WTF? Tie him to a stake and torch him I say.. |

My oldest, William, is in the CFA up in northern Vic. He was on standby, but not called into that mess. He's still pretty new to the game, and I'm not sure they'd chuck inexperienced kids into that fight. Yeah, the greenies have a lot to blame for this. Not only have they brought bans on burn-offs, but have also brought bans on grazing underneath the trees to clear out the undergrowth. I hope that couple who have been fined over 50 grand for doing the sensible thing by keeping their environs clear get some recompense from the govt, but really dont see it happening. And, yeah, they caught one of the fuckers. The lefties are telling us how hard done by his upbringing was and current situation is. Like I care! I'd like to see him swing. |
