Horn of the Hunter by Robert C. Ruark is a masterpiece. It's autobiographical in nature and is the quintessential African safari story. The guy lived an
amazing life and had a gift for description that just sings. It's the second time I've read it. I'm pretty sure it's out of print and hardback
copy runs $50 or so if you can find one. If you can find it then beg, borrow, or steal it but don't ask for mine.
Sure it's about hunting and killing but it's about why people do it and it's about a magnificence of Africa and being in the wild.
